Puffed Rice Poha

Commonly  called susla this dish is native to dakshin karnataka and a popular snack. It was frequently served in hostel and was one of my favourite dish. Easy to make and also healthy snack.  And minimum ingredients required. 

Preparation time : 10-20 mins
Cooking time 10-15 mins
Serves 3-4 ppl

Ingredients required:

  • 3 cups of puffed rice ( Murmura in hindi)
  • half cup of roasted groundnut
  • 1 medium sized onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium sized potato ( boiled,peeled and diced)
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 2 tspn of cumin seeds ( jeera)
  • 2 tspn of turmeric powder ( haldi)
  • 2-3 tspn of refined oil
  • salt to taste
  • half a tspn of sugar
  • coriander to garnish
  • Sev to garnish
Procedure to make :
  • Soak the puffed rice in water for just 5 mins before preparation. Don let it become soggy. Drain water and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds, tumeric powder and green chilles and let it fry for a while before adding onions and fry till onions softens.
  • Now add the pre soaked puffed rice and cook for a while.
  • In the end add  the roasted groundnuts and potatoes.
  • Add sugar and adjust seasoning. 
Serve hot.

Suggested serving : Serve hot by garnishing with coriander and Sev along with cold curd.
