Shahi khicdi

Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking time: 20 mins
Serves :- 4 ppl

Ingredients required :-


  • 2 cups of rice
  • 1/2 cup of tuvar dal
  • 1/2 cup of moong dal
  • 1/4 cup of chana dal
  • 2 tspn of freshly grated ginger
  • 2 green chillies finely chopped or slit lengthwise
  • 8-9 cashews, almonds, raisins
  • 50 grams of paneer cut into cubes
  • 1/4 cup of mozerella cheese (grated)
  • 1/4 cup of cubed potatoes
  • 1/4 of makai ( sweet corns) (optional)
  • 2-3 tspn of kasoori meethi ( crushed)
  • 3 tspn of butter/ghee/refined oil
  • 2 tspn of tumeric
  • 1 tspn each of cumin seeds, mustard seeds
  • 1 tspn each of coriander powder, cumin powder
  • 1 tspn of garam masala powder
  • a pinch of astafoitedia( hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water to pressure cook khicdi
Procedure to make :-

  • Before starting to cook wash rice and dals and soak in water for preferably 30 mins.
  • And also finely chop the dry fruits.
  • Now heat oil in a cooker and to it add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, tumeric powder and let it splutter.
  • Add grated ginger, green chillies and dry fruits and saute.Take care that the dry fruits don burn. Add a little water if necessary.
  • Now add potatoes, makai and paneer and fry till paneer turns brown.
  • Add the dals and rice and mix throughly.
  • Now add garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder and kasoori meethi.
  • Add salt as per taste.
  • Add sufficient water and let it cook for 3-4 whistles.

Serving tip;-

Serve hot with roasted papad, dahi, achar and ghee.
