Instant Khicdi

In my earlier posts i have shared recipes of Khicdi and Shahi khicdi and  this another instand version of this healthy dish.
I had some leftover rice from the afternoon and was not in a mood to cook something new and neither was in mood to eat the usual Dal chawal so i thought of making this khicdi which is easy and quick to make and is quite healthy as well.

Ingredients Required :-


  • 3 cups Leftover rice or Cooked rice
  •  1 cup ofMoong dal,toovar dal,chaana dal (in ratio of 1:1/2:1/4)
  • 2 tspn of grated ginger
  • 2 tspn of finely chopped green chillies
  • 2 tspn of turmeric powder
  • 2 tspn of cumin powder( jeera)
  • 2 tspn of coriander powder
  • 2 tspn of pepper powder
  • 2 tspn of kasoori meethi
  • few cashew nuts and raisins
  • 3 tspn of oil
  • 200 ml of water
  • Salt to taste
Procedure to make:-
  • Start with washing the dals and keeping them aside.
  • Heat water in a pressure cooker and bring to a boil.
  • Once water starts boiling add turmeric powder,cumin powder,coriander powder,pepper powder and grated ginger.
  • Now add the washed dals and mix well.
  • Let it cook for 10 mins before adding Leftover or cooked rice.
  • Add salt as per taste and also finely chopped green chillies.
  • Pressure Cook for just 1 0r 2 whistles.
  • In a tempering pan heat some oil and fry cashew nuts and raisins.
  • Temper the khicdi.

Serve it hot.
