Gujarati kadhi

This is my all time favorite comfort food. In my earlier post I posted recipe of Punjabi Kadhi which you will find here. Unlike Punjabi Kadhi which is spicy and has pakodas in it, Gujarati kadhi is simple,light and is bit on sweeter side. 

               I have tried making Gujarati Kadhi many times but never seemed to get the taste i had eaten long back. Finally i got the ingredients and flavors right so am here sharing the recipe.

Ingredients Required:-

  • 2 cups of yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of besan (gram flour)
  • 2 tspn of ginger-green chilly and coriander paste
  • 2 cup of water
  • 4-5 tspn of sugar
  • Salt to taste
For tempering
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 tspn of cumin seeds
  • 1 tspn of mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tspn of fenugreek seeds
  • a pinch of hing(optional)
  • 2 tspn of oil
Procedure to make:-
  • Whisk besan in 1/4 cup of water and make sure there are no lumps.
  • Now whisk remaining water with yogurt to form a smooth mixture. You can also pass this mixture through a sieve to form a smooth mixture.
  • Add salt,sugar and ginger-green chilly and coriander paste to yogurt- water mixture and whisk well again.
  • In a pan heat it on a low flame stirring continuously to prevent it from curdling and also to avoid it from a spilling over.
  • In a separate pan heat oil and add Cumin, Mustard and Fenugreek seeds.
  • After the mustard seeds splutters add hing and curry leaves.
  • Now add this tempering to yogurt mixture and mix well
  • Bring to a boil and turn off the heat.
Serve hot with Khicdi
