Masoor Anna/Perugu Annam/Dahi Chawal

Dahi-chawal is a favorite dish all over India. Its a important dish cooked during important festivals in most South Indian households and also a perfect dish for lunchbox during travelling since its light and healthy. Today am sharing the recipe my mom uses to make this dish to take with us in our lunchbox. 

Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Serves: 2 -3 people

Ingredients Required:-

  • 3 cups of cooked rice
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of fresh curd
  • 1/2 cup of Pomegranate seeds
  • 1/4 cup of roasted pistachio,cashews
  • 1/4 cup of grapes
  • 1-2 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger finely chopped or grated
  • 4 tspn of finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 tspn of sugar
  • Salt as per taste
The recipe suggested here should be served only after 6 hours of preparation to allow the curd to set. This recipe is specific to lunchbox to prevent curd from turning sour.

Procedure to make:-
  • In a mixing bowl add the cooked rice. Remember the rice should be warm and not hot.
  • Add the milk and curd and mix well.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Pack into lunchbox.
Serve with a little lemon pickle and a handful of chips of your choice.

Note:- 1)If the consistency is little hard then add a few tspn of water and mix well.
